One of the firm’s significant contributions to the consolidation of the legal community is the establishment and continued sponsorship of an annual billiard tournament among lawyers from all over Ukraine.
History of the Tournament
The annual tournament was first held in 2006, with participants from the Autonomous Republic of Crimea. The event was judged a big success. The event grew beyond the limits of the peninsula so that in the next year, 2007, it became an All-Ukrainian event. Since then, twice a year, in autumn and spring, at the foot of the Genoese Fortress a two-day billiard marathon commences.
In 2008 the tournament was named after one of its creators, attorney Serghey Lavitskiy. Nowadays, Open Billiard Tournament among Lawyers named after Serghey Lavitskiy.
Participants
There are two requirements for every participant: a law degree and enough skill to play billiards at the amateur level. There are typically forty or more participants. Since the tournament’s creation, more than 150 lawyers have played in the tournament, with a large annual renewal. There is no gender differentiation; males have dominated in the past, but female participation is growing. Participants have included: judges, prosecutors, private practice attorneys, notaries, government officials, and representatives from law enforcement.
Location
The tournament is held in one of the most beautiful cities on the Crimean peninsula, ancient Sudak. The tournament takes place at the Tourist-Health complex “Sudak”, 89 Lenin Street, at the foot of the Genoese Fortress, one of the most interesting architect-archeology remains of the Middle Ages.
